EVALUATION - Q8: What we've learned

Filming: these two shots are a good example of the progress we have made from the prelim and the final film, we have made a great change in the way we film. We had a tilted camera at the start and also the lighting was way too bright for the type of shot we were trying to create but now on the first screenshot we have shown a lot of improvement for example the shot is steady and looks professional compared to the second one.

Editing: our editing skills have improved a lot too in the time from then to now, I used to only be able to use one program but now I can use all three programs properly and can make them work together on final cut pro. We did a lot of editing in class, in the first prelim we barely had any transitions now on this film (screenshot above) we used an overlap which shows our progress from having no transitions or effects to using a wide range of editing skills such as laps.

Teamwork: at the start of the course we were put into teams of our choice and we worked together ever since, we've learnt a lot about teamwork through the planning filming and editing process, I used to work alone on my own blogs and only help with certain things but by the end of the blogging and filming i started to work together with my team and now i work well with my group. I started out an individual worker but ended up a team player and from our prelim theres been a big change, for example at the time of the prelim we all did different things but with the actual film we all filmed at one point and we made the storyboards together too.

Planning: we all did the planning together and we used a lot of media tools such as watching movies and clips on youtube for our final movie but for our prelim we mostly came up with the story in one day and it was an effort of one person mostly but we made a big change in the last one where everybody sat around a table and discussed the story and how we wanted it to go. Our planning skills have improved dramatically because we thought about it more and used a range of things to get inspiration for it so that is a big sign of progress for me and my team. Mise en scene: on our prelim there was barely any but on the final film we had a lot of props like clothing and laptops and it all helped with the feel of the movie it felt more real.

EVALUATION - Q6: Feedback To Our Movie

Here is some feedback of our film after watching it on the big screen at the cinema. This had greater impact on our audience and we were able to see the real quality of the shots and film opening as a whole on the big screen.

This is an interview video of a response to our movie, which took place outside class in our lesson. This is valuable feedback and the type we need to help evaluate our piece of work before showing to the public.

EVALUATION - Q4&5: Media Institution release

This movie is a student movie that gathered a lot of attention and it was posted on youtube, it was made by students in schools just like us, there was a lot of graphics used and it was released probably on the internet only and not widely distributed. The internet is an excellent way to send out movies because it is free and it can be seen by virtually anyone, they couldn't make it into a big movie because they have a low budget and it's a school so it is an independent institution. The movie was really good for a student movie.

Our movie will be released through the internet on Vimeo, and youtube too so it will have limited release but we have posted it on Facebook and got audience feedback, it was released by CANDI media class and it will be made into a DVD for us and we also saw it in the cinema, so it will have limited release but the Facebook page really helps because we can get some valuable audience feedback.

This is the actual facebook page that it was posted on and at the bottom there is likes and comments.

EVALUATION - Q6: Evaluation of Feed Back

After we got the feedback from our movie we decided to make a wordle of it and post it on our blogs to make it look more diverse and not plain and boring, as the post before this says we did that then we recorded each other's responses to the movie which will be up on the blog soon. Now this is an example of the program we used and it is internet based, it's just a fancy way of showing our work off nicely.

EVALUATION - Q6: Feed Back

This is the wordle we produced in class after we all watched the each others movies and then we got our feedbacks so then we wrote them up on this site to put up on the start of our evaluations.

What we've learned so far from the feedback is that our movie does a lot of things well and it is good because most people liked the dissolves and the fading effect but also the bad things are that we didn't switch up the music.

EVALUATION - Q3: Audience

This is my prezi i did of our target audience, you have to click on to the picture to see it full size.

EVALUATION - Q2: Representation of Social groups

 1) This opening title clip from Donnie Darko is similar to our movie's main character because they are both standing in almost the same position and the audience doesn't know who they are because their identities are concealed momentarily and we are not sure if they are protagonists or antagonists, the main difference between the two stills and the characters is that in our movie the person is a bad guy and that's the opposite for the other movie. They are both men in different situations in similar shots.

2)  In this clip for the two movies which are Dirty Harry an our own movie they are similar characters on screen, they are both women and they are also in danger from a man which is a distinct similarity and typical of a thriller movie. Also they are both young women and their danger levels may be different but the situation is similar although they are both represented in a way that makes them seem very vulnerable compared to the men in the movie which are shown to be powerful.

EVALUATION - Q1: Comparing Films

I have put together a picture using microsoft powerpoint of stills from our thriller movie and stills of a professional hollywood thriller movie and compared 9 shots from each to compare the two movies.

1) In the first picture from Dirty Harry of a woman in the scope of a sniper shot I compared it to the picture of kaleigh walking alone in the park from our movie FOURSQUARE and I think it is similar because it both shows the women in vulnerable positions and it also challenges thriller conventions because the level of threat top the women is very different because in ours she is not in any immediate danger but in the other she is.

2) In the second shot I chose to compare the shot of me on the roof with my silhoutte and the shot of harry hiding behind the sniper and I thought that they were similar since both of our identities are concealed well and that is typical of thriller movies because it creates suspense and it also shows power too; they're high up.

3) The third shot I wanted to compare was the shot of a landscape (london) from our movie and the shot of harry and his partner on the floor investigating a dead woman on a rooftop, there wasn't much to compare since they were very different shots but the similarities are that both shots are types of establishing shots.

4) The fourth shot I was comparing was the shot of all four scenes on screen on our movie and the shot of harry on the roof holding the sniper and they are similar in the idea that they both have a male antagonist it seems at the start and his identity is concealed but there is a major difference becuase I'm not in the shot.

5) The fourth shot I compared was of judiths feet moving and the shot of the lady in the yellow bikini walking while under sniper lens and they are smilar again because it's women in a weak position being watched and they comply with thriller conventions of women being weaker and men being in power or in control.

6) The sixth shot I decided to compare was the still image of kaleigh walking in the park and the still of harry walking in the streets of a city and the similarities I noticed were that they were both mid shots or full length shots showing people walking and the audince not knowing what they're doing yet.

7) The seventh shot that I compared was the shot of the red room in ours and the shot of harry and his partner from a high angle, the similarities are the types of shots which are people doing what they do from distance but the audience being left to think what they're doing.

8 & 9) The last two are together because they were similar, the first shots from ours were the shots of charon walking from behind and someone typing on the laptop and from Dirty Harry, the shot of the sky and the other shot of the city line, they do not challenge thriller conventions because they both are typical because they set the scene but compared to our movie they differ slightly when it comes to shots used.

End Of Movie Thoughts

Now today is the last day of our time limit for our movie and it's been a long road but we're done and this is the last blog for this section I'll be doing, and there isn't really much to say but well done to my team and me!
Now we're going to the cinema soon to watch the movie itself in the cinema and get some feedback and then complete our blogs but on a new section titled Evaluation so this is the last post on this section of it so bye!

FINAL EDIT

This is the final blog i'm going to do and the video explains what we've done, we're done and now I just recorded my last video to wrap up the whole process it's a type of evaluation and it's done now.

Editing

Here is a short clip of us doing some editing. We used all the skills we learnt from the beginning of the course to help produce our work. It wasnt easy using Livetype but we finally got the hang of it and was able to make some good changes.

Creation of Titles

Right now we're making titles for our movie which will be the final thing we do to the movie since everything else is basically done, now we just need to put up the titles all through the movie, I have done some research on actors to play in our movies and also things like types of movies that we can take inspiration form, we are using the basic program of livetype to make the titles because we haven't got much time but we have a day to do the rest of it and it's a work in progress.

I want to use the normal headings for our movie and i want to do a white font on a black background for our movie bacause it really stands out comapred to the rest of it so I have been looking at clips on youtube to help with the picking of movie sequences, some of them look promisisng but the rest don't really suit ours.

Inspirations

These are three opening sequences that really inspired me and I wanted to mimick especially Donnie Darko.

Editing Extended

This we're doing right now is the editing process, we're just doing the music and the fonts ofor our movie titles and instead of coming up with our own movie titles we decided to use the CANDI media project becuase that's the one that everyone is going to be using and also the music is from youtube all we're doing now is putting it together properly to fit our movie so it sounds fluent when we play it back.

This first picture is of the sound making process.

This second picture or screengrab is of the editing process while making the titles, we are experimenting and we're moving the text around the screen to see where it fits in well and this ties in with the work i've been doing on researching like watching clips on youtube of movie beginnings.

Progression Through Movie Making Process

This is a clip of me talking about how we are doing on our movie and how we can improve the movie.

Independent Research

Mishaps & Process

This is just another blog becuase I want to keep updated, I find that it's better to blog randomly to show the progress that i'm making through the whole process, so this is just to highlight the mistakes we made so far and how we have managed to work around them or bypass them.
When making a movie many problems can arise, and so far we have experienced our share of them, but over all we have worked really hard as a team and especially the rest of my team that did most of the editing while I made the storyboard and did the filming for one key shot and also help out with the research. We have had many problems along the way, first of all the major problem being the time we had to do this which in fact was really short and it taught us a lesson, the next problem was the acctuall filming and various location changes that had to be made to fit around our individual schedules.
